About The Artist

SJ Pottery was started in 1988 by Joseph Jostes and Susan Skinner. Joseph has been making pottery since 1980; Sue since 1986.

SJ Pottery, in Bethel, Missouri, is a limited production pottery studio, producing traditionally inspired redware, wood fired saltglazed stoneware, and whatever else catches their fancy. They truly are a unique couple.

At SJ Pottery, interpreting what has been done allows them to add a link to the existing style of traditional pottery. In retelling the traditional story they can offer items that feel familiar while still offering personal voice in the creative process.

The redware is lead free and dishwasher safe. Please do not microwave, however.

Since redware is not suitable for long term storage of wet ingredients, think of your redware in terms of serving - not storage. The redware pitchers and vases may be used for live arrangements by simply lining the piece with a jar or a plastic tumbler. After serving in redware, emptying the bowls and platters and storing the leftovers in something else is recommended.
